My false alarm the other day and subsequent trip to the maternity ward made me think I should really get all my ducks in a row for this baby. Though my c-section is scheduled for the 16th, I’m already having tons of contractions, so I’d bet this little turkey is going to be fully cooked sooner than later. Â Consequently, it’s probably a good idea to get everything set so it’s not total chaos like the other morning when I just threw a bunch of crap into a bag and headed to the hospital in a hurry.
In addition to putting together the crib, washing all the gender neutral baby clothes, and gathering my enormous nursing bras, I figured it’d be a good idea to get everything ready for my hospital stay. So I packed up my bag full of essentials like waterproof eyeliner, US Magazines, self tanner, my camera, and a bottle of champagne but I also decided I should probably throw in my iPod for the big day.
While I want to be fully aware and not listening music at the moment my new baby is pulled out of my belly, I was thinking maybe I should make a delivery playlist for after Grey and the baby exit the c-section room for the baby bath station and I’m left to have my guts sewn back together all by my lonesome.
The last time around, I was chatting away with my doctor and nurses about celebrity c-sections and tummy tucks, so the sewing up part of my section wasn’t bad. This time though, I have no idea if the medical team will be as gregarious, so I was thinking it may be a good idea to set up a mix on my iPod so I don’t have to listen to the smack of my placenta being chucked into a bio-hazard bag or the sloshing of my uterus as they pop it back into place. Not like I heard this before — but I’m thinking worst case scenario here, folks.
Initially, I thought about making a relaxing playlist of Enya and Andrea Bocelli for my c-section, but now I’m thinking more along the lines of the Rocky soundtrack or old school rap. I’m sure my adrenaline will be pumping so “Eye of the Tiger” may be better suited to my mood than “Peruvian Woodwind Classics.”
So far, my list includes:
Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey (quite possibly the best end-of-wedding song ever…I’m hoping it will remind me that having a cocktail or two is in my very near future)
All I Want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey (I know it’ll be a little early, but this Christmas carol may be the best song of all time. It immediately brings a smile to my face — no matter what the season)
Sex Bomb by Tom Jones (Again, another classic ditty that makes me so very happy)
Biggie Smalls (This dead rapper gets me pumped to go jogging, so I’m hoping he helps me get on my breast-feeding game face)
That’s about as far as I got…any suggestions?

One thing this post made me realize is I'm actually excited to be able to go jogging again! These pumped-up playlists are about the only thing that motivate me to exercise. Hopefully it'll be the same for having a kid!

oh my god, i have been harboring that secret conviction for so long now, and finally someone has said it–All I Want For Christmas is You IS the best song of all time!!!!!! Also, I LOLed at your packing list– self tanner and waterproof eye makeup are the two things I would have thrown in there first too. hahahaha love it.
As for music, I vote Bombs over Baghdad by Outkast. Seriously best adrenaline song ever. And what baby shouldn’t be exposed to Outkast as early as possible?
ABBA! I don’t know why but the cheesy Swedish rockers can get me through a marathon like none other!
