Molly Smith is Artistic Director of Arena Stage, a fantastic theatre focused on American plays here in DC. It used to look like a Bauhaus bunker good for throwing raves in, but it’s currently undergoing a zillion dollar renovation to make it fabulous and give out come hither vibes. I have interviewed Molly for two different publications and every time she says the outlandish things I always want interviewees to say while making me a little bit smarter about something or other.
She also takes the time to ask what I’m up to, which is awfully rare. Surprisingly, when I interviewed Richard Gere, he did not ask what was new with me or about the state of my health. But Molly Smith does, and I happily told her all about Naked Thanks and the book of essays I’m writing about hot sex in the nation’s capital. “Well send it over!” was her reaction to the latter and I rather nervously emailed my smut to her.
It’s a tad intimidating to have a woman who commissions Pulitzer Prize-winning plays read your chapters about having sex in a bush while on ecstasy, but it all turned out okay in the end. I’m super thankful that occasionally really talented people take the time to read the soft-core porn of others.
